Long story short:
I love science, high-tech, reading about the lastest in innovations in science, tech and engineering on the web… and I am stuck in a low-tech job with not many people to talk to about all the cool stuff I love to read.
I am a techy generalist… my Firefox bookmarks and general interests range through everything from The Hubble telescope, to materials science to medical breakthroughs to alternate transportation, to laser technology, to the possiblity of earthquake detection via very low-frequency radio waves, to learning how to build a “habitrail for aquarium fish” out of clear PVC pipe (the fish love that), to Linux distros (screw SCO!), to computer security, to Photoshop, to mysterious numbers stations, to video editing breakthroughs, to alternate fuels, to the fun of knowing that if you pour liquid nitrogen on a tile floor, it will cause the tiles to loosen and pop up like giant popcorn.
Basically if it is scientific or technical, rather obscure, VERY innovative, pretty darn creative, and probably involves research – I am allllll over it.
I was brainstorming with a friend about how to find other people who are just as facinated with innovation, science and tech to talk to, and who are multidiciplinary in their interests. First idea: run an ad in the local Craigslist, second idea, start a blog.
The Craigslist only got one reply. Hopefully this blog will do better.
So to start off this blog, take a look at a few links of what has facinated me lately:
Multi-touch Intersaction Screen The mind reels about what this could accomplish, say in Aftereffects and Photoshop! I WANT ONE OF THOSE!!
Thermal Depolymerization can change any organic garbage into oil. No kidding.
Alien Hand Syndrome. Imagine if your brain was damaged in such a unique way that your hand or arm seemed to be under someone else’s control. Freaky!
I have hundreds of links from the last 2 years to comb through and add to this blog. I will also be adding my own unique sense of humor here as well. Stay tuned and enjoy.
